Is being Married the final act for creating Girl's Identity ???

Recently, I was talking to a good but close friend who unveiled a bitter truth to me -
"In Indian parochial society, the identity of a girl is nothing without a husband."
I'm not completely convinced with this premise but if it's true then the fact that Identity of a man is also created when he works or is in engaged in some profession otherwise its zilch.

So, If a man is not working or unemployed then he commands no respect from society
and is considered worthless.

Similarly a woman who's supposed to produce kids and raise a family has no identity without a husband and she is considered incomplete or devoid of social responsibility in this Profound World.

It's strange and funny that Our Lives are so entwined in the Social Circle that I feel we are slaves of Society or have surrendered ourselves to the master called - "SOCIETY".

  1. Dear Vaibhav,

I Totally agree with what you have written. But don't you think its WE who form the society?
Its a common but very neglected saying: Hum badlenge jag badlega...hum sudhreneg ..jag sudhrega !

But no1 pays heed to it.
Ofcourse women have 2 take a stand to stop being just somebody's WIFE !! but, socially aware men have 2 support them too..not because they are MEN ..but because men are also a part of d society !
